From X to R-18: “Dreamboi” Triumphs and Lights Up CineSilip Film Festival Opening Night!

Great news for cinephiles and fans of bold Filipino storytelling! “Dreamboi”, the much-talked-about film by director Rodina Singh, has officially been granted an R-18 rating by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB)—after undergoing its third and final review just yesterday.

And the timing couldn’t be more perfect: “Dreamboi” will premiere TODAY as the opening feature of the highly anticipated 2025 CineSilip Film Festival, hosted by Vivamax and held across Ayala Malls cinemas nationwide!

Director Singh took to social media moments after receiving the rating, sharing her excitement:

“After revisions and heartfelt discussions with the board, Dreamboi is now cleared for screening! Thank you for believing in fearless cinema. See you at CineSilip!”

🎬 What Changed?

While the MTRCB initially slapped “Dreamboi” with an X rating—which bans public exhibition—the filmmakers worked closely with the board to make minor but meaningful adjustments that preserved the film’s artistic integrity while meeting classification guidelines. The result? An R-18 rating, allowing the film to be shown commercially to audiences 18 years and older.

This win is not just for the film—it’s a victory for creative expression in Philippine cinema, proving that dialogue between artists and regulators can lead to solutions that honor both art and policy.
