Exploring Masculinity on Stage: A Review of "Dicktalk", an Intense and Relevant Modern Theater Masterpiece

"Dicktalk" is an excellent piece of modern theater. The play's sharp, biting dialogue and intense, controversial plot keep the audience on the edge of their seats from start to finish. The play explores themes of masculinity at different stages represented by five men - seasoned actor Archi Adamos, fast-rising artists Gold Aceron and Mikoy Morales, real-life trans man Nil Nodalo, and critically acclaimed actor Jake Cuenca.

The acting in the play is superb, with each ensemble member bringing their own unique style and energy to the stage. The cast's ability to convey the play's humor and sensuality is a testament to their talent.  Gold Aceron gives a standout performance and surprised us with his daring scene.  Mikoy's delivery of rapid-fire dialogue is particularly impressive.  Jake Cuenca brings a depth of experience to his performance.

One of the amusing features of "Dicktalk" is its set design, which keeps transforming every scene with its simple yet effective use of lighting and sound effects that enhance the emotions permeating the entire production.

"Dicktalk" is a play that should not be missed by anyone who loves theater. Despite its title suggesting that it may only appeal to women and LGBTQIA+ audiences, the play is relevant to all viewers as it offers an exploration of the male perspective and the social issues surrounding masculinity.

It's a play that will leave you rethinking long after the final curtain call, and its exploration of the various stages and interpretations of masculinity is both relevant and eye-opening.

If you have the chance to see this play performed live, don't hesitate - it's a theatrical experience you won't soon forget.  Directed by Phil Noble, the play has a limited run at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium at RCBC Plaza in Makati City until April 23, 2023.  Tickets are available at Ticketworld.
