No trailers. No clips. Just raw vision and conviction.
Inside the intimate setting of Fishermall’s VIP Cinema 1, Rein Entertainment held a Grand Media Conference for its highly anticipated new film Salvageland—not as a screening event, but as a focused Q&A gathering that gave journalists and industry insiders a first-hand look at the creative force behind one of the year’s most daring Filipino films.
Slated for exclusive theatrical release on November 26, Salvageland marks the long-awaited return of Richard Gomez to leading roles in theatrical cinema—and the feature film comeback of director Lino S. Cayetano after 15 years in television.
A Director’s Return to the Big Screen
Best known for steering hit TV dramas like FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano and The Iron Heart, Cayetano co-founded Rein Entertainment in 2017 with writer-producer Shugo Praico and Philip King. Now, he steps back into the director’s chair for his first narrative feature in over a decade.
Cayetano shared that the film had been a long-gestating passion project, born from his desire to explore the tension between duty and family—and the moral weight of enforcing justice when institutional support disappears.
Co-written by Praico (Drug War, Elevator) and JC Pacala, Salvageland is set in a fictional town near the volcanic plains of Mount Pinatubo, where ash-covered roads and abandoned structures set the stage for a tense, morally complex thriller.
The Story: A Siege of Blood and Belief
The plot centers on a veteran police officer (Richard Gomez) and his rookie son (Elijah Canlas), who find themselves isolated in a remote police station when a high-value fugitive from a powerful crime syndicate unexpectedly seeks refuge inside their outpost.
What begins as a routine night spirals into a desperate standoff—not just against external threats, but against their own differences, fears, and loyalties. With no backup and time running out, father and son must decide: uphold the law… or survive as a family?
A Cast That Bridges Generations
The ensemble brings together icons and rising stars:
- Richard Gomez, once the golden boy of 1980s Philippine cinema, delivers a weathered, intense performance that signals a powerful return to form.
- Elijah Canlas (Kalel, 15, Whether the Weather Is Fine) continues his ascent as one of the country’s most compelling young actors.
- Veteran character actor Mon Confiado (Heneral Luna, Goyo) joins in a key supporting role.
- Completing the lineup are Cindy Miranda, McCoy De Leon, and Angela Morena—talents from the Viva Films roster, which is co-distributing the film nationwide.
Viva Films affirmed its full backing of Salvageland, highlighting the film as a powerful example of homegrown narratives crafted with international appeal.
Rein Entertainment: From Streaming Success to Theatrical Boldness
Since its launch, Rein Entertainment has built a reputation for socially conscious, high-impact storytelling. Their Netflix thriller Elevator became a regional top performer, while their recent series Drug War—a searing dramatization of the human toll of the anti-narcotics campaign—has secured international distribution through KC Media Global in the U.S.
With Salvageland, the company makes its boldest move yet: a return to the big screen with a genre film rooted in Filipino soil but crafted with cinematic ambition.
“This isn’t an imitation of Hollywood Westerns,” said Shugo Praico during the Q&A. “Our frontier is post-eruption Central Luzon. Our lawmen wear PNP patches. And our justice? It’s messy, human, and ours.”
Why “Salvageland” Matters
In a market often saturated with formulaic fare, Salvageland dares to be atmospheric, morally gray, and unapologetically Filipino. It’s not just an action film—it’s a meditation on authority, legacy, and the cost of protection in a fractured society.
And while no footage was shown at the Fishermall conference, the passion in the room was palpable. From the director’s quiet intensity to Gomez’s reflective answers about fatherhood and duty, one thing was clear: this is a film made with purpose.
Don’t miss it.
Salvageland opens exclusively in cinemas nationwide on November 26.
